28 Days on the Road

By Adene Cassidy | Jun 14, 2018 |
The Dodd Family had always dreamt of road tripping in the USA so when they discovered they could layby a holiday and take a motor home, or an RV as they like to call it in America, across the country their dreams literally came true!

After landing in sunny Los Angeles, Michelle, her husband Steven and their two children, aged 8 and 6 began their 28 Day journey through some of the most majestical sightseeing spots in the world.

First stop LA, visiting the famous Universal Studios, where the kids got their fix with Harry Potter and The Transformers before hitting the road. Each stop, another adventure on their bucket list was ticked off!

Motorhomes are becoming an increasingly popular way for families to travel, it’s very affordable and it gives you freedom to move around, for Michelle who admits to her fear of flying it meant she could avoid hopping on and off short flights across the USA.

Michelle describes their family holiday as amazing, 28 days sharing incredible sights with their children and creating lifetime memories.  A bonding session every family needs!

The highlights included Niagara Falls, driving through the great open deserts and across iconic bridges, through National Parks and ending their trip in the city of dreams, New York.

The USA caters extremely well for RV holidays, with Motor Home parks set up along almost every major route with campgrounds where you can stop to rest, refuel and recharge from a few hours to a few days.

Michelle says this was the ideal way to reach their holiday goals. Starting their layby in August 2016, the instalments were just $146 per week, including Return Airfares and the RV Rental. Being able to layby spending money means you can cover extra costs, like fuel, generator usage at parks, and theme park tickets. Having your own kitchen means you can save on food expenses, which can add up on holidays.

“As a review we would have to say Layaway is amazing! Everything was so easy for us. Weekly payments and everything was organized for us. It really was that simple. Every question we had Belinda was able to help with. Her customer service was second to none. I have been telling everyone since we got home to check out layaway travel. We are planning another trip soon, again with LayAway.”

Q&A with Michelle:

1. Why did you choose this type of holiday?

It was something that nobody we know had ever done and the variety of things to see really attracted us to want to do it.

2. What attracted you about a layby holiday?

It was simply the convenience of paying it off in weekly payments. The amount to pay upfront was not really an option for us so the layby option made it very easy and obtainable.

3. What was your favourite part of the holiday?

I especially loved the natural beauty over in America. The Grand Canyon, Monument and Niagara Falls were absolutely breathtaking. I would recommend visiting them to everyone.

4. What did this holiday mean to your kids and your family?

It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. My children got to experience so much stuff that not a lot of kids get to. My family and i got to see a huge part of the world that we never thought we would. It's surreal.

5. Would you recommend it?

I would! I have already been recommending it to everyone since we returned. Just the convenience of the layby and the amazing things we experienced in America. Memories for a lifetime.

6. Where would you like to go next?

Honestly we are already planning to go back to America. We want to see Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone National park and the Glaciers in Montana. Go to Yosemite National park. Just do a scenic trip around the Northwestern side.
